Lynx™️ Technology, through a bi-layered mirror treatment, offers the best protection from the sunlight directed to the sensitive upper part of the eyes and from the light reverberation to the lower part of the eyes and provides pure clarity.

Lynx™ lenses: the signature Vuarnet vision

Most lens technologies solve one specific problem. Polarization reduces reflected glare. Photochromic lenses adapt to changing light. Mirror coatings cut light intensity. Each is useful in the right conditions, but each also comes with a trade-off.

Lynx™ was developed around a different question: what makes vision better in almost any environment? Vuarnet’s answer is contrast — not simply darkness or filtration, but a clearer separation between what you are looking at and everything behind it.

Contrast is not the same as tint

A dark lens reduces incoming light across the board. It can relieve brightness, but it does not necessarily improve definition. In flat light, it may even make faint details harder to read.

Lynx™ contrast enhancement works selectively. By managing specific areas of the visible spectrum, it increases the perceived difference between adjacent tones: the edge of a ski piste against snow, a root against a wet trail or a wave against the water around it.

The result is not a darker view, but a more legible one. This is why Lynx™ became Vuarnet’s signature lens technology and a defining part of the mineral glass lens range.

The Lynx™ family

Lynx™ is the parent technology. Two specialised variants build on the same contrast expertise, each adapted to a specific environment.

Where Lynx™ lenses perform best

Driving and everyday use

Contrast enhancement is particularly useful when visual information is subtle: reading a road surface in flat light, judging distance in overcast weather or spotting signs against a grey sky. Discover our Driving collection for city and road-ready models.

Mountain and outdoor activity

In the mountains, terrain definition is a safety consideration as much as a comfort benefit. Lynx™ lenses enhance the distinctions that flat alpine light can erase. For dedicated snow conditions, Skilynx™ lenses take this further. For high-altitude glare, explore Altitude and Alpine.

Sport and movement

At speed, terrain is read in fractions of a second. Better contrast can mean earlier recognition of changes in surface and detail. Explore Sport sunglasses and Running & Cycling.

Lynx™ lens colours and what they do

The Lynx™ family is available in several base tints, each with a distinct visual character.

  • Greylynx: neutral rendering with contrast enhancement; a versatile choice for driving and everyday wear.
  • Brownlynx: a warmer rendering with strong contrast in variable and overcast light, particularly suited to outdoor sport.
  • Bluelynx: a cooler rendering for bright, open conditions and water environments.

For faithful colour rendering without contrast enhancement, Pure lenses offer a more neutral approach.

Lynx™ sunglasses for men and women

Men’s Lynx™ sunglasses

Men’s sunglasses span sport wrap profiles and classic Lifestyle silhouettes, with Lynx™ lens options across a wide range of frames.

Women’s Lynx™ sunglasses

Women’s sunglasses offer the same optical performance in refined frame geometries and lightweight constructions designed for all-day comfort.

To choose a frame shape, see our fit guide.

When contrast enhancement is not what you need

Contrast enhancement is an active optical choice, and there are situations where a more neutral lens is preferable:

  • Work requiring precise colour judgement.
  • Photography or visual assessment where colours need to be seen as naturally as possible.
  • Anyone who simply prefers a neutral, unenhanced rendering.

In these situations, Pure lenses manage light while preserving a more faithful colour perception.

Why mineral glass matters for contrast

Contrast engineering relies on precise control of how light passes through the lens. This requires a material with consistent optical properties and a manufacturing process accurate enough to maintain quality across the whole lens surface.

Mineral glass provides that precision. It also offers natural scratch resistance and, depending on the lens, filters up to 94% of infrared radiation. Its optical clarity is designed to last for years. Learn more about Vuarnet mineral lenses.

Made in France, built to last

Every Lynx™ lens is made in Vuarnet’s EPV-certified manufacture in Meaux, France, through a 17-step process. Each lens carries the engraved V on Ski hallmark, guaranteeing its origin and optical quality.

Vuarnet FAQ: Lynx™ lenses

What are Lynx™ lenses?

Lynx™ is Vuarnet’s signature mineral glass lens technology, designed to enhance contrast and depth perception rather than simply reduce brightness. It is the parent technology for Skilynx™ and PolarLynx™.

What is the difference between Lynx™ and Skilynx™?

Lynx™ is the all-round contrast lens for general conditions. Skilynx™ is specifically tuned for snow and flat alpine light, where terrain definition is reduced by overcast or whiteout conditions.

Are Lynx™ lenses polarized?

Standard Lynx™ lenses are not polarized. PolarLynx™ combines Lynx™ contrast engineering with polarization and a bi-shaded silver mirror for extreme glare.

Which Lynx™ colour should I choose?

Greylynx is suited to driving and daily wear with neutral rendering. Brownlynx offers stronger contrast in variable and overcast light. Bluelynx is suited to bright, open and water environments.

Can Lynx™ lenses be made in my prescription?

Yes. Vuarnet mineral lenses are available in prescription through authorised Vuarnet opticians. Learn more about prescription options.
