Geneva Mayall

Geneva Mayall

My name is Geneva, I am 30 years and I live in Bend, Oregon. I am a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation as well as third-generation Japanese American (sansei). My passion is to create safe and accessible spaces for marginalized communities in the outdoors through leading various programs and creating affinity group spaces on the trails and in the mountains. I feel most grounded when I am in relation with the land running on the trails at home. One of my favorite feelings is running on a trail that was once covered in snow, finding the connection between two sports (running and skiing) and an appreciation for experiencing the same land in a different season.

What does Vuarnet represent to you?

I love this brand because of my dad. He is the OG ski industry guy, worked for K2 and the Canadian and US womens ski teams. He taught me everything I know about skiing and biking. I remember stealing his Vuarnet Legends that he kept in a lighted and locked glass case in our ski shop and putting them back before he would notice they were gone. He has had them since the 70's and they still are immaculate and his favorite sunglasses to ski in. Vuarnet stands the test of time in both style and function!

Why do you do what you do?

I want to leave this world a better place for the next seven generations. Its deeply engrained in the teachings of the Potawatomi people.

What is your favorite place on Earth?

Skiing behind my dad. On any slope, any day, any conditions.

What is your biggest fear?

Spiders! Or the zombie apocalypse. But I feel prepared for that.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

My first 50k ultra-trail race. I signed up having no expectations. It was difficult at times during training to maintain discipline but I learned so much about myself and what I'm capable of in the process. By race day, I felt physically prepared and confident. It was one of the funnest days on trail I've ever had!

What is your motto?

Live for each day to have a new and different sun
