« I believe that within any naturalist, there is a very deep sense of beauty, the beauty of nature, of creation in a broad sense. »
Jean-Pierre Fiard has lived and worked in Martinique since 1967. A philosophy professor dazzled by the splendor of tropical nature, he has pursued both a literary and scientific career. He is the principal botanical editor of the dossier for the World Heritage listing of the volcanoes and forests of Mount Pelée and the Pitons (mountains) of northern Martinique. Fiard believes the protectionof nature is not only a matter of knowledge but also, and above all, a matter of theheart. He has decided to reach out to a wider audience through the photographicimage, drawing from the best of his many naturalist snapshots.
A Fellow’s Tale: Mountain Stories is a collection of vignettes from the Vuarnet Fellowship Alpine Emissary Program. Vuarnet Fellows are relentless explorers and athletes, just as Vuarnet is relentless in our dedication to craftsmanship and quality protection. The Fellowship is an inclusive space that fosters an extraordinary sense of community in celebration of our inherent quest to commune with the mountains. A Fellow’s Tale explores the human side of experience, the desire to transcend ourselves and our Fellows’ essential need to pursue their particular paths in life.
